Carpet installation can seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and preparation, it can be a straightforward process. Here are some general steps to follow for carpet installation:
- Measure the room: Measure the length and width of the room to determine how much carpet you’ll need. Add a few extra inches to your measurements to ensure you have enough carpet.
- Prepare the room: Remove all furniture and other items from the room. Clean the floor thoroughly and remove any old carpet, padding, or adhesive.
- Install the carpet padding: Lay the carpet padding on the floor, making sure to cut it to fit the room’s dimensions. Tape the seams of the padding together to keep them from separating.
- Lay out the carpet: Roll out the carpet and let it rest for a few hours to let it settle and release any wrinkles or folds. Cut the carpet to fit the room, leaving a few extra inches on each side.
- Attach the carpet: Apply carpet adhesive around the perimeter of the room, and use a knee kicker and a power stretcher to stretch the carpet and attach it to the tack strips around the edges of the room.
- Trim the excess: Use a carpet knife to trim the excess carpet along the walls, leaving enough excess carpet to tuck under the baseboards.
- Finish up: Replace any furniture and other items in the room, and vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove any debris.
